Polis

Polis is a network of European cities and regions working together for innovative and sustainable transport solutions. Polis fosters cooperation and partnerships across Europe with the aim of making transport research and innovation accessible to cities and regions. It supports the exchange of experiences and the transfer of knowledge between European local and regional authorities, and between them and other actors of the sector such as industry, research centres, universities, and NGOs. Polis maintains close contact with the European institutions and provides decision-makers with the necessary information and tools for making sustainable mobility a reality. The network and its secretariat actively support the participation of Polis members in European projects on urban mobility. Polis’ aim is to improve local transport through integrated strategies that address the economic, social and environmental dimensions of transport.

In CH4LLENGE, Polis is responsible for the SUMP take-up, training and exchange. As part of its tasks Polis will: assist in the creation of a self-assessment methodology for defining CH4LLENGE cities’ current situation in sustainable mobility; organise four training workshops – one for each challenge; produce tailor-made road maps for follower cities with their help; assist in the organisation of national SUMP challenge seminars; and support the setting up of an e-learning platform for four CH4LLENGE e-learning courses.

Polis has extensive experience on the topic of SUMP, gained to a large extent through participation in a number of SUMP related projects. Polis will thus be able to consolidate the gathered knowledge and build up on tested methods and practices. This knowledge will be used in a one-day SUMP exchange workshop, which Polis will organise and where other SUMP projects will be invited.

As a city network working for sustainable transport solutions, Polis is motivated to see more and more cities embarking on sustainable mobility policies and is glad to be able to offer that to cities through the CH4LLENGE trainings and knowledge exchange.
